What will you be bringing?
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Logistics Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Proven experience with KNAPP automation systems (or similar automated warehouse solutions)
Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, logistics processes, and automated material handling systems
Hands-on experience with system testing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work under pressure during critical go-live phases
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
Fluent in English and Dutch (written and spoken)

Purpose of the Senior Automation Specialist role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Automation Specialist with expertise in KNAPP automation systems to join the team at BESTSELLER’s state-of-the-art Logistics Center. This role will be pivotal during both the pre-opening and post-opening phases, ensuring the seamless setup, optimization, and ongoing operation of automated warehouse solutions.
The Automation Specialist will act as a bridge between our internal operations team, KNAPP, and other technical stakeholders to deliver efficient, reliable, and scalable automation processes that support BESTSELLER’s distribution objectives.
Key Responsibilies
Pre-Opening Phase
- Collaborate with the project team and KNAPP engineers to oversee the installation, configuration, and integration of automation systems
- Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and validation of automated equipment prior to go-live
- Develop and document operational procedures, workflows, and maintenance schedules for automation systems
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to operational and maintenance staff
- Identify and mitigate risks related to automation readiness and performance
Post-Opening Phase
- Ensure optimal performance of all KNAPP automated systems, including monitoring, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for automation-related incidents, coordinating with KNAPP and other service providers for quick resolution
- Analyse operational data to identify improvement opportunities and implement enhancements to increase efficiency, throughput, and system reliability
- Support ongoing staff training to ensure correct use of automation equipment and adherence to safety procedures
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to future-proof automation capabilities
